Move-In, Move-Out & Breaks

Returning Students may move-in beginning August 28th, 2017 at 9am for the Advent 2017 semester.

Breaks

Residence halls remain open for students during Fall, Thanksgiving, and Spring Break. Residents must register to stay during these breaks. Students may not stay in residence halls during the winter, spring, and summer vacation periods unless express, written permission is given by the Office of Residential Life. Students do not have access to the halls or their rooms during these periods.

Residence Hall Closing Dates: EASTER SEMESTER 2018

All freshmen and sophomores are required to check out by noon on Thursday, May 10th
  • This includes students in theme and Greek housing.
All juniors and seniors are required to check out by noon on Monday, May 14th
  • This includes students in theme and Greek housing.

Checkouts

To Check-Out, residents should schedule an appointment with their Proctor to review their room for damages together before departing; once this step is completed, residents should come to the Residential Life Office in the BC to return their key or indicate that they lost their key ($50 lost key charge).

Any new damages or other violations found upon review of a room will result in associated fines being applied to the resident's student account.  One of the most common fines is Failure to Check-Out ($50); this can be avoided by stopping by the Office of Residential Life to return a key or report a lost key on your way out of Sewanee.

The Residential Life Office is staffed from 8:00am-4:30pm Monday-Friday for checkouts.  A lock-box will be available to students from 4:30pm - 8am / 7 days a week to return keys when the office is not staffed.

Freshmen & Sophomores Only - Approval to Stay on Campus During Grad Week

Unless you have been granted permission from the Director of Residential Life (Kate Reed) to stay, you must move out by noon on Thursday, May 10th.  Members of the freshmen & sophomore classes may appeal to stay beyond Thursday, May 10th if they are the family member of a graduate or working graduation.  No students (even those with approved appeals) may stay beyond noon on Monday, May 14th.

To appeal to stay on campus beyond May 10th, please fill out the form in Orgsync.

Dining

The last meal served at McClurg will be dinner on Wednesday, May 9th.

Storage & Bicycles

The Office of Residential Life does not store student belongings. Contact information for local storage facilities is posted in each residence hall early in the Easter semester.

The University does not store bicycles during the summer.  Per the University Handbook, page 384: "Bicycles left on campus after Commencement in May are considered abandoned property and subject to sale or disposal at the University's discretion." Every year, students are surprised when their bikes are not awaiting their return in the fall - we implore you to plan to store and secure your bike elsewhere.

Returning in August

Returning students may move-in on Monday, August 26th for the Advent 2018 semester. Please plan accordingly.  We are communicating this date early as we do not anticipate approving any early arrivals outside of University sanctioned programs (Fall sports, PRE, and Residential Life Staff).
