Family Orientation Schedule

Please note that this is a schedule for Family Orientation 2017. We are still hard at work preparing the 2018 Family Orientation schedule, but the events listed below give a nice overview of the general content and timing to expect. A final schedule of events for Family Orientation 2018 will be available in May.

9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Check-In at Main Quadrangle New students and families pick up orientation information.
9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Move In at Residence Halls New Students may move into their residence hall rooms.  Proctors will be on hand to assist new students.
11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Move-In Lunch Break Come as you are and join Vice-Chancellor John McCardell and his wife Bonnie for a casual lunch at their home, Chen Hall.  Drop by anytime between 11:00 and 2:00 for a light lunch and a chance to meet other students and families.
4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Welcome The Dean of the College welcomes new families to orientation and Sewanee.
4:35 p.m. to 5:15 p.m

Afternoon Session I:

Intro. to Counseling & Psychological Services, or 

Pre-Professional Information Sessions, or 

Financial Aid Meeting

Introduction to Counseling & Psychological Services: Staff members from Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) will review the services of counseling and psychological services within the Wellness Center. This session will also cover disability services and support available to students.

Pre-Professional Information Sessions: Various faculty will gather to discuss several pre-professional programs offered to students and help parents and families understand what is expected of the student for each program.

Financial Aid Meeting: This session will review important information about re-applying for financial aid in future academic terms, the FAFSA, and other key financial aid policies and procedures.

5:20 p.m. to 6 p.m. 

Afternoon Session II:

Introduction to Health Services, or

Introduction to the Honor Code and Student Code of Conduct, or 

Financial Aid Meeting

Introduction to Health Services: Staff members from the Wellness Center and Sewanee Dining will showcase all of the ways the University works to support the health and wellness of Sewanee students.

Introduction to the Honor Code and Student Code of Conduct: University administrators will discuss the basics of the Honor Code and Student Code of Conduct and help parents and families understand Sewanee’s expectations of its students.

Financial Aid Meeting: This session will review important information about re-applying for financial aid in future academic terms, the FAFSA, and other key financial aid policies and procedures.

6 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Picnic Supper Supper for the new students and their families with University staff.
8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Family Information Panel A panel discussion with students, members of the Sewanee Parents’ Council, and the Office of Career and Leadership Development reflecting on the first-year college experience.  Members of the Student Life Cabinet will be available for questions and answers following the panel discussion.

7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Welcome Reception & Breakfast University Deans and members of the Sewanee Parents’ Council welcome all new students and parents with a full breakfast compliments of the university.
10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. The University Chapel Service All Saints’ Chapel is the University Church and as such its ministry is ecumenical and its services are open to everyone. The services of worship in All Saints’ follow the usage of the Episcopal Church. Services are held at 8:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 6:30 p.m. each Sunday the College is in session.
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Luncheon Students and their families are invited to have lunch compliments of the university.
1:15 p.m. to 2 p.m. Vice-Chancellor's Address Parents and new students are formally greeted by Dr. John McCardell, Vice-Chancellor.
2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.

Goodbyes and Families Depart   

New students and family members say their farewells.
