The Office of Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability is happy to announce the Sustain Sewanee Photo Contest!
The OESS team will be accepting photos from students, faculty, and community members from now until December 4th. All submissions can be sent firstname.lastname@example.org.
There will be five categories: environment, outdoor recreation, sustainability, community engagement, and candid.
The submissions will be judged by a diverse panel and the first place winners in each category will receive a prize. On December 11th a reception will be held to annouce the winners, showcase the photographs, and present prizes. A similar photo contest occurred in 2009, the fruits of which can be seen throughout Spencer Hall. We're hoping to create a tradition connecting photography and personal engagement to sustainability and the environment that we can then broadcast across campus.
Environmental stewardship and Sustainability are sometimes hard to promote - they are broad, often complex topics that don't always fit nicely into an article or poster. Our "ah-ha" moment was to look towards art, and more precisely our own community, for inspiration and motivation. A person's engagement with their landscape is a vital step to their engagement in sustainability. What may seem to be a simple photo contest is, in reality, a series of personal impacts, a collection of memories, an audience to adventures, the whole of which is greater than the sum of its parts. With that:
Hurry and sumbit your photographs to email@example.com!
