Since graduating from Sewanee, Joanna Parkman has been hard at work in Costa Rica.
Recent graduate Joanna Parkman, C'14 is a contributor to the Global Forest Reporting Network. The network is a joint effort between Mongabay.org and World Resources Institute (WRI) that sources data-driven, forest-focused stories from an international network of journalists.
Since leaving Sewanee, Parkman serves as a program intern for the School for Field Studies Center for Sustainable Development Studies, based in Atenas, Costa Rica.

Parkman was also recently announced as a finaist in the Rainforest Alliance’s Follow the Farmer contest. This contest will give two winners (US contestants only) the opportunity to see first-hand what’s it’s like to pluck coffee beans or harvest mahogany on Rainforest Alliance Certified farms and forests. The competition will award an all-expenses-paid trip to explore behind the scenes of sustainable production of everyday products and publish their observations.
