Chicken Slaughtering Workshop at the Farm House

Last spring the University farm got 50 baby chicks. Luckily almost every chick survived to adulthood. However, our luck ran short when it came to the sex of the chickens. We ended up with 3 more roosters than we needed. It is recommended to have no more than 1 rooster per 20 hens. Farm staff, farm house residents, farm volunteers, and McClurg Dinning staff all joined together in a farm-to-table event to slaugher the 3 extra (and quite aggressive) roosters. Different techniques were learned and demonstrated.
