Sewanee: the University of the South
SEWANEE, Tenn. 9/16/05 -- Sewanee senior Trey Moore (Gallatin, Tenn./Gallatin) came off the bench to score the winning goal and had an assist as the Tigers defeated Alabama-Huntsville, 4-3, here at The Pit in an NCAA men's college soccer match.
Moore's winner — a penalty kick at 73:17 — was set up when teammate Alex Marsden was tripped in the box by a UAH player. For Moore it is his first goal of the season, 15th of his career and second career match-winner.
Sewanee senior Barry Slagle scored a pair of goals (Patrick Burke and Moore assisted) and Marsden scored one on an assist from Robbie Wynne.
UAH, an NCAA Division II school, matched Sewanee goal for goal until Moore's winner.
Slagle put Sewanee up 1-0 (11:41) on a header back post, only to see Rafael Barbosa make it 1-1 at 24:45 on a free kick in the box (Fernando Pingitore, assist).
Slagle's shot from inside 10 yards made it 2-1 Tigers, but a Sewanee own goal evened the match at 2-2 (41:49) less than five minutes before intermission.
Marsden's 22nd career goal gave Sewanee a 3-2 advantage at 52:39. UAH tied the match for the third time on a Duncan Kane goal (penatly kick) at 59:46 to set up Moore's winner.
Five Red Cards: Sewanee goalkeeper Tyler Blackwell and midfielder David Scavone (two yellows) were ejected, while UAH lost Jarad Peltier, Fernando Pingitore and Paul Sammeroff.
