2011 Toyota Luncheon

hugh with students272Today marked the annual Tonya Luncheon where Tonya Internship Board members get to enjoy lunch with the Tonya Public Affairs and Wilson Business & Economics interns. They also heard oral reports from five interns: three from public affairs and two from business & economics. Each year, the interns each submit a written report at the conclusion of their internships. An award is presented to the interns who submitted the top reports. This year's Outstanding Report in business & economics was written by Breck Pappas, and this year's Outstanding Report in public affairs was written by Courtney Hinkle with Olivia Schubert in second place.

Vice-Chancellor John McCardell wrote in the Summer 2011 issue of the Sewanee magazine:

"This year marks the 30th anniversary of the first endowed fund to support student internships. Established in 1981 by the Tonya Memorial Foundation of Chattanooga for internships in the field of public affairs, broadly defined, this fund has provided opportunities for almost 1,000 students to explore career possibilities.

The Tonya Foundation in 1985 endowed the Wilson Internship Program for Economics. To date almost 400 students have received internship funding from this endowment."
