Coach Shackelford enters the 2008 season coming off of a record-breaking year. The 2007 Tigers finished third int he nation for Division III and the highest national finish of any Sewanee team on record. They also won the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship with a big win over national powerhouse DePauw. Shackelford was the SCAC Coach of the Year, also.

Conchie has coached 26 All-Americans, two National Champions (doubles), 14 National Scholar Athletes, two National Senior Players of the Year, and one National Freshman Player of the Year.  Her players have earned three WIAC championships (1987-89) and two SCAC championships.

Conchie was the 2007 SCAC Coach of the Year, the 2006 ITA Atlantic South Coach of the Year, the 2001 ITA South Atlantic Region Coach of the Year, the 1992 SCAC Coach-of-the-Year, and has also served on both the NCAA South Region Committee and the ITA South Committee since 1995 and has been the ITA Southern Awards Chair since 2003.

A native of Jacksonville, N.C., Conchie earned her bachelor's degree in 1982 from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington, majoring in business. She played varsity tennis at Jacksonville High School and UNC-Wilmington.
She and John live in Sewanee and have four children; Avery, 15, Sadie, 13, and Michaela, 11 and Tessa, 5.

Shackelford’s guiding philosophy has been to combine hard work and fun with each student’s educational experience.  “Our girl’s are committed to our success, balancing the fun and companionship of competing in intercollegiate athletics with the dedication necessary to compete at the highest level of Division III competition while working toward a world class education. I am most proud of the variety of success’s members of our team have found. They are active in contributing to the many facets of campus life and their community,’’ she adds.
