Lucía García-Santana

Assistant Professor of Spanish
B.A., Universidad de La Laguna, Spain; M.A., University of Connecticut; Ph.D., University of Connecticut

Dr. Garcia-Santana works on the tensions and agreements of traditions in contact, and the manifold manifestations of displacement–exile, internal and external migration--as reflected in the literature and culture of Spain and Latin America. In particular, she's been working on the literature of Spanish exiles in Argentina and how their unique circumstances have shaped both the individual and the collective experience.

Dr. Garcia-Santana is currently studying how Latin American and Spanish literature reflect the different nuances of displacement within the boundaries of the Hispanic world, between the extremes of comfort and familiarity, or total estrangement. She's also interested in Hispanic theatre and performance studies, specifically the independent circuits which serve as alternative means of contestation to social and political status quo.
