Professor Mila Dragojevic has been awarded a grant by the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation to research on variation of local violence against civilians in Croatia. Dragojevic will conduct interviews and archival research in Croatia during the spring and summer of 2014. The Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation supports research that addresses questions related to violence, aggression, and dominance.
The research will contribute to Dragojevic's ongoing research on violence in the Balkans in the 1990s and its legacy. In addition to several journal articles on ethnic violence and politics in Serbia and Croatia, Dragojevic has a forthcoming book titled, The Politics of Social Ties: Immigrants in an Ethnic Homeland (Ashgate, 2014). Her current research project attempts to explain why ethnic violence broke out in locales with little strategic value while other locales remained relatively calm.
