Sewanee Symphony Orchestra 2014-2015 Season

On behalf of the Sewanee Symphony Orchestra I welcome you back to our 2014-2015 season.  This season promises to be colorful and diverse featuring programs that are certain to entertain and brighten the lives of our Sewanee family.

The orchestra is honored to commission and premiere two new works, one of which is inspired by the rich musical traditions of the South. Motivated by the success of last year’s Halloween concert the SSO and the Jazz ensemble seek to expand our audiences as we host an additional Halloween morning concert for young audiences. This morning concert will be packed with excitement and treats.

In December, the SSO will bring back Celebrate the Season with a full program of music for the holidays.  This concert promises a wide and inclusive selection in which everyone can participate. Don’t forget that during our concerts the Art Gallery will be open so you can also enjoy this year’s exhibits!

Last year’s first spring concert brought together a beat boxing flutist, a baroque guitar concerto, and a freshman pianist performing Gershwin’s well-known Rhapsody in Blue.  2014-2015’s Steppin’ Out will continue to feature talented soloists accompanied by the entire orchestra and performing incredibly challenging repertoire. This is an event not to be missed.

We also want you to know, your requests did not go unnoticed.  This year we are excited to add to our program You Asked for it: an Evening of Music Selected by our Audience. Hoping to create lasting connections with our friends and neighbors, this year’s final concert will feature music from Latin America and by Latin American composers.

Beyond sharing with you a new expanded and exciting season, the Sewanee Symphony Orchestra looks forward to building a vibrant artistic community.

Thanks for making music with us!
