Gil Horner C'20 freshmen picture

Gil is a freshman inaugural member of the Hippocrates Fellows program with an intended major of biology and minor in chemistry. Throughout his high school career, aside from significant academic devotion, he was committed to school organizations with community engagement and health profession focusses. Namely, he served on the executive boards of Key Club, HOSA, and National Technical Honor Society. He knew that he wanted to continue nurturing these interests throughout college, so when he heard about the Hippocrates Fellowship, he looked into it and applied. Aside from the fellowship, in his short time on The Mountain Gil has found many outlets to pursue his passions. He currently serves as the Secretary for Sewanee Health Professions Society, is an active member in Sewanee’s Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity, and a member of Sewanee Multicultural Health Society. If he isn’t studying or in a meeting you can likely find him running on the Perimeter Trail or enjoying a Greenhouse or CoHo event. Following his undergraduate career at Sewanee he intends to pursue medical school as well as a degree in public health.

Ellie Herron C'20 running

Ellie is a freshman and is on the pre-health track here at Sewanee and a Baldwin Scholar. Apart from being a member of the Hippocrates Fellowship program, she is also on the varsity cross country and track teams, was awarded new comer of the year her first season as a tiger athlete, and participates in SOP outings whenever she can. The summer before her freshman year, Ellie summited Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa. She has also climbed Mount Rainier and Shasta in the US, and plans on adding Aconcagua, Denali, and one day Everest to her list of summited mountains. In the future, Ellie plans on attending either medical school or dental school.

‌‌Hannah Cable C'20

Hannah is a member of the class of 2020 and of the first group of Hippocrates fellows. She plans to double major in French and Integrative Biology. Prior to moving to The Mountain, she attended Chapel Hill High School in NC and played lacrosse, ran cross-country, kickboxed, and rode horses competitively. She spent a lot of her free time working as a lifeguard, hostess, and server. Hannah loves the French language and has spent every year since 7th grade hosting an exchange student from Belgium or traveling to french-speaking countries to continue her passion for learning and practicing the language. She has had a continued interest in medicine since childhood and has spent time volunteering with and shadowing physicians. At Sewanee, Hannah is a member of the Varsity Equestrian team. When not in class or studying, she loves running and visiting all the views of the surrounding valleys and mountains. Hannah would like to attend medical school after her time at Sewanee and possibly receive a degree in public health with the intention of joining Doctors Without Borders later in life.

Brianne Holsomback C'20

Brianne is a member of the class of 2020. She is a member of the first group of Hippocrates Fellows. She plans to major in Biochemistry with a minor in Spanish. Brianne works in the Office of Medical and Health Professions here at Sewanee and participates in Cru, a Christian mentorship group. In her free time here, she likes to read her Bible by the cross and go to the overlooks on the mountain. After Sewanee, she plans on attending medical school.
