Beersheba Clinic Service Day

Sewanee students volunteered at Beersheba Springs Medical Clinic, a non-profit medical facility located in Grundy County. This clinic plays a key role in serving Grundy County, home to the poorest health outcomes in Tennessee. The clinic is currently undergoing an expansion and renovation to include additional units for dentistry, psychiatry, and ultrasounds. Seventeen Sewanee students helped with the renovations. Marq Schieber, C’20, writes about his experience.

Careers in Health & Medicine

Previously called Beyond the Gates, Careers in Health and Medicine is an event for students to meet alumni with careers in health care. This event is for all pre-health students, not just pre-meds!  In addition to an array of physicians, representatives will be present from a variety of health care fields including nursing, dentistry, occupational therapy, and veterinary medicine. Alumni will share information and advice through small group sessions and panels. Following a catered lunch, they will also offer optional practice interviews.

MD or DO?

Licensed physicians in the United States are either Doctors of Medicine (MDs) or Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DOs). Cortney Booth, C’12 and current student at DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine, addresses the question of whether to apply to a DO program or an MD program.
