Visiting Instructor of Education
MS Library Science, Simmons College
Emily Herman is a visiting instructor, teaching Children’s Literature. She recently moved to Sewanee after almost 20 years as a children’s librarian; the last 14 in Atlanta Public Schools. Her experience is mostly in elementary schools, but she also worked in a private middle and high school as well as university and public libraries. She earned National Board Certification in School Media in 2005. In addition, she also held positions as a visiting artist at the University of Illinois, assistant editor and contributing columnist for Shuttle, Spindle and Dyepot Magazine, and a multimedia reviewer for School Library Journal. She served on Minnesota’s Maud Hart Lovelace Book Award committee, and is currently a member of the Milner Award Committee for Atlanta-Fulton County Public Library. As a parent, she has an extensive history of school and community involvement including school advisory, academic achievement, and student council committees. She holds an MS in Library Science from Simmons College, Boston.
