A Unique Opportunity To Visit China
This 8 hour study abroad program in the summer of 2017 consists of two full academic courses, "Economic Development in China" to be taught by Professor Yasmeen Mohiuddin and "Growth Theory" to be taught by Professor Marc St-Pierre. The dates of the CHINA program are May 11- June 21 (6 weeks).
No background in Chinese language is expected to participate in this program. The program typically includes course work in Sewanee for about 4 weeks, and about 2 weeks of travel. Cities in China on the itinerary include Beijing, Xian, Guilin, Shanghai, and Suzhou. The most distinguishing feature of the trip is visits to sites not normally visited by American tourists, and ample opportunity to interact with a diverse group of people, including academics, communist party members, senior government officials, and chief executives of private businesses/joint ventures. The program also provides a unique opportunity to visit a wonder of the world - the Great Wall in China. Above all, you will be able to witness the nature and process of market reform in China.
Students participating in the program are eligible for SEED (Social Entrepreneurship Education Program) internships in India, China, United Arab Emirates, Dominican Republic, and the U.S., including Puerto Rico. Limited funding (need based and merit based) may also be available for participation in the programs.
