Six students presented research they have conducted in conjunction with faculty in the Chemistry Department at the 2013 Southeast Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society, which was held November 12-16, in Atlanta, Georgia. A total of sixteen students in accompany of Dr. Phil Byers and Dr. Emily White attended the meeting including the following: Maggie Hudson (C'14), Sara Parks (C'16), Abby Bray (C'16), Asmita Shrestha (C'14), Parker Haynes (C'14), Rachel Denham (C'14), Evergiste Ngabo (C'14), Mason Hoffman (C'14), David Dan (C'15), Michelle Leidy (C'15), Ava Conner (C'15), Rebecca Gorodetzky (C'17), Emily Newton (C'17), Mary Ashley Allen (C'16), Rachel Rodgers (C'17), and Dannielle Hendon (C'17).
Abigail Bray (C’16) presented her work with Dr. Emily White in a poster entitled “Presence of pharmaceuticals and personal care products in treated wastewater from a small community college.”
J. Mason Hoffman (C’14) presented his work with Prof. Ron Pongdee in a poster entitled “Construction of N,N-diethylbenzamides employing a non-classical Mitsunobu reaction.” Justin N. Miller, Margaret E. Gardner, and Danielle R. LePar are co-authors on this poster.
Michelle Leidy (C’15) presented her work with Prof. Ron Pongdee in a poster entitled “New methods for C-arylglycal construction: Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling of dihydropyranylphosphates.” Mason Hoffman is also a co-author on this poster.
Rachel R. Denham (C’14) presented her work with Dr. Rob Bachman in a poster entitled “The exploratory synthesis of glutamate lipid-derived naphthalene and perylene organogelators.”
Sara A. Parks (C’16) presented her work with Dr. Rob Bachman in a poster entitled “Toward new inorganic/organic conjugate dyes for solar harvesting.
Margaret H. Hudson (C’14) presented her work with Dr. Rob Bachman in the Undergraduate Research Symposium entitled “Solution aggregation and polymorphism of platinum (II) bipyridine complexes.”
